Veronica was born and raised in South Phoenix, Arizona, and she has a strong connect to those living in South Phoenix. Her passion has always been to work with others to create a better society. Some might say her life as a social working began in junior high when she worked to ensure that the students with disabilities had restroom facilities that were equipped to meet their needs. As part of the 4-H group at her school, she often worked with the teacher that served students with sever disabilities. She fell in love with these students, and saw that things needed to change in order to give them equitable access to the restrooms. Through her hard work, the project was accomplished to better the lives of others.
To this day, Veronica continues to make a positive impact on the lives of those that she serves.
Veronica is the driving force behind the first "e" - empathy. For years people in education are told that relationships matter, but in order to began to walk with those one serves, one must first have empathy. When someone has the ability to understand and share the feelings of others, they will be able to relate to where someone is at in order to provide the best possible education, which will give them the knowledge to be empowered to do more. Also, she is always certain to ensure that individuals understand that empathy is not sympathy. Sympathy sometimes gives people an excuse to feel sorry for themselves while empathy helps us understand where someone is to build off of their present for the future.
